Shelter groundbreaking will occur in late May!

After more than three years of “encouragement” from LASS, Lancaster County will break ground around the end of May for the new $3 million animal shelter on Pageland Highway. The groundbreaking, originally scheduled for early April, was postponed so that a temporary access road can be constructed for the groundbreaking ceremony. We’ll keep you posted on the exact date when one is announced. The new facility will be a huge improvement over the current shelter, with greater holding capacity and a clean, bright environment for shelter animals and the people who care for them.

Update on Peggy the Cat

There is a special place in heaven for those who adopt animals with special needs. Thanks to LASS members Nadine Day and Lynn Kotula, sweet Peggy the cat now has had her surgery and is ready for a forever home. She offers her perfect heart in a slightly less-than-perfect body. Peggy has adapted beautifully to being minus a left front leg. She doesn’t feel sorry for herself or compare her body to other cats. She jumps on beds and plays happily with her toy mouse. Peggy can snuggle just fine and can purr and rub and love you unconditionally…what more do you need from a cat? Peggy has a shiny black coat, big green eyes, is spayed, and is 2-3 years old. A lovable, affectionate kitty. Please call Lynn Kotula at 406-546-8164 to meet Peggy.

More ways to help...
Here's a quick, FREE way for you to help our local animal shelter. Whether or not you own a cat, please visit, and join their Cat's Pride Club. (Don't worry--they don't share your information). As a Cat’s Pride Club member you can nominate The Lancaster County Animal Shelter to receive donated litter. It’s free to join the club, and you’ll also receive coupons, updates, cat tips and more. Please ask your family and friends to join the club and give our shelter their 2019 nomination. Organizations receive more litter based on how many nominations they’ve received in the calendar year. Every time you buy a GREEN JUG of Cat’s Pride Fresh & Light, Cat's Pride donates a pound of litter to animal welfare organizations across America. For nominations last year the Lancaster shelter recently received $1,600 worth of cat litter. Let's do it again! Please visit nominate our shelter right now. It only takes a couple minutes. The shelter cats THANK YOU!

Peggy needs a permanent home or  foster situation. We are having her evaluated by a vet to see if we can improve her paw/leg as it is bent . She is spayed and has the sweetest most loving personality.  She is between 2-3 years old.
